How to enable shortcut keys in Gmail

Gmail sign in: Shortcut is the common term that used in computer, internet, computer programs... In computer, shortcut mean a link that point to a program on the computer, this shortcut often appears as a file with a unique small arrow in the bottom-left. In programs, software, shortcut often is a keys or a combination of some keys of keyboard to perform a special operation, for example, in Microsoft Office Word, Ctrl + S -> Save document, in Adobe Photoshop: Ctrl + J -> Duplicate layer...

Shortcut helps us use computer faster, instead of finding the symbols and click, just press a button on keyboard. And this article will show you how to use shortcut in Gmail.


If you don't have keyboard shortcuts enabled(it's often set by default) click the small gear icon in top-right of your Inbox, select Settings. Under the General tab, find keyboard shortcuts section (as the image above) select keyboard shortcuts to "on". Click Save changes in the bottom of pages.

Once you have shortcut keys enabled, just select the mail then type one letter or a combination of letters to simplify everyday tasks. The ones you need to know are:
- J to go to older messages
- K to go to newer messages
- E to archive
- A to reply all
- R to reply individually
- Shift + # to trash
- / to type in the search bar
